Whew, we made it! Another month, another chance to step into the sunshine, moisturized, unbothered, and booked withboundaries. As the temperature climbs and the days stretch out like that one cousin who always overstays their welcome, it’s officially time to welcome summer like the bad, blessed, and bougie Black women we are.
Let’s be honest — summer isn’t just a season. It’s a whole mood. It’s sundress season, it’s melanin-glowing-in-the-sun season, it’s “don’t call me after 8 p.m., I’m at a rooftop day party” season.
So, here are some real, laugh-out-loud strategies to help you slide into this new month and the upcoming summer with ease, joy, and just a little bit of edge:
1. Get Your Summer Lineup Together
Sis, pull that planner out. I don’t care if it’s digital or one of those fancy hardcover ones with the gold edges — you need to pencil in your joy this summer.
Comedy Shows: Laughter is therapy that doesn’t need insurance. Grab your girls and hit up that comedy lounge. Whether it’s the OGs like Sommore or new-school funny like KevOnStage — go laugh until your stomach hurts and your eyeliner runs.
Concerts: Beyoncé might not be on tour again (unless she surprise drops something, ‘cause you know she will), but somebody’s doing a throwback 90s R&B tour, and you deserve to scream the lyrics to "If You Love Me" by Brownstone with your chest.
2. Create a Summer Self-Care Ritual
You can’t pour from an empty coconut, boo. Whether it’s a weekly face mask, solo date nights, or walking barefoot in the grass while talking to Jesus — carve out your peace.
Don’t wait ‘til you’re burnt out and crying in your car to realize you needed a day off. And no, “running errands” is not self-care. That’s adulting. Let’s do better.
3. Invest in Your Look… for You
This summer, we’re showing up for ourselves first. That means wearing what makes you feel good, whether that’s a crop top, wide-brim hat, or a full-on “Black Barbie goes to brunch” look.
And yes, we’re moisturizing our knees, not just the parts people can see. Stay ready.
4. Say Yes (to the Right Things)
Try something new this month. Salsa dancing. That poetry night. Traveling solo. Dating again (if you’re ready — don’t look at me like that). Summer is a time to explore, and no, you’re not too old to have a good time. Stop playing small. We’re not doing that this month.
5. Protect Your Energy Like It’s Edges in a Tight Ponytail
Not every invite deserves your RSVP. Not every situation needs your commentary. This month, let’s focus on peace, joy, and people who refill our cups — not drain them and leave lipstick on the rim.
So, here’s your reminder: Summer is coming whether you're ready or not, but baby, it hits different when you walk into it with intention, confidence, and a little lip gloss.
Let this month be the one where you put you first. Where you laugh too loud, dance a little offbeat, show up fully, and radiate all that good energy only a Black woman who knows her worth can bring.
Because let’s be real — nobody does summer like we do.
Here’s to the sun, the music, the memories, and the melanin. Let’s make this month (and this summer) unforgettable.
